How am I doing?

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well and you are having a nice semester. I know that we are getting closer to important tests, but be calm and prepare for what is coming. If you see that you have too much things to do, don't panic and face them one at a time. May be you don't finish everything, but at least you would have moved forward and sooner or later you will keep up to date.

About a month ago I told you that I get in Biochemistry. Now I'm going to tell you how I am doing, especially what the subject is that I have liked the most.

Getting in the university has been a big challenge for me. I realized that my study method was horrible, my priorities were disordered and my capability to plan and respect my own planning was very weak. Every subject has been a challenge for me and even the varied schedule it was something to deal with. Even though it has been difficult for me and I have been sad and frustrated sometimes, I'm happy because I think that it has made me grow.

One of the subjects that have meant the biggest challenge for me, is also now the one I like the most: Chemical Laboratory Techniques.

This class is mainly practical. It starts every Thursday at 8:30 in the morning and ends at 13:00 in the afternoon. We have fifty minutes of lecture first and then we go to the lab and put into practice what we learned in the last week class. Once in the lab, we get separated in groups of fifteen students approximately with one teacher each group and go to different parts of the laboratory. There is also a Technician that give us some lab materials and an assistant that gives us some advice and helps when we forget or don't know how to do something. The practical works we have done are:

  • Learn how to use basic laboratory materials.
  • use some instruments and equipment.
  • Dilutions
  • Chemical titration
  • Purification and separation of solids.
  • some kinds of Extraction.
  • among other things...

I like this subject because I have never been in a lab participating before. That really makes me feel uncomfortable and insecure. I always think that I'm going to break something or do wrong a procedure. Although a love to put into practice that I have learned in theoty. That's why I like it so much, because I have to go beyond my insecurity and the result is fantastic. That subject makes me feel like a real scientist!

I have to say that I'm very thankful to the people working there. To the teacher's for their patience to explain me the procedure again and help me and encourage me when I was scared of doing something. To the assistant for helping me so much and giving me really useful advices. To the Technician, for allowing me to pick up so much tissue paper and teaching me how to shake a test tube without a film. And to my table companion, Varinia (I don't know if it is well written, I'm sorry if I did it wrong) for helping me so much, abiding my insecurity and urging me to trust more in what am I doing.

Have a nice day and God bless you!

Changing ends

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.  Proverbs 28:13 New Living Translation  [source] Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well :D. Are you in the middle of evaluations? Come on! I now you can do it ;). Talking about that, evauations are very important because they show you the things that you have to change or improve. When this year started I share with you some issues that I had to improve to continue at university. Well, as much as I need to be evaluated, the university needs it too. What about changing roles for a while? Let's check in what aspects does the university need to improve. In this post I'm going to focus on five aspects. You can assign a score to each of them according to your perception. Perception                     ----- Score Satisfied                    ...

Postgraduate studies?

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well. Today I am going to travel far in the future, as I did in my previous post. We are going to talk about a course that you would like to take when you finish your major degree. When I heard this I said "What?! Are you crazy? How am I going to talk about what I am going to do after I graduate if I'm not even close to gradute yet?" Anyway, I will try to look beyond that I have in front of my eyes and tell you what I would like to do. I'm just joking. I do use to look at the future but I question myself about if it is going to be as I imagine it. I'll tell you about that later. [SOURCE] Answering the question about what I would like to do when I finish my major degree I would say taking a Master in Biochemistry. I would consider taking this course in the future because it's objective is giving a high level background in Biochemical sciences and its aplications to professionals and university graduates. I ...

Why did I choose Biochemistry?

Hello! That's a good question. I chose Biochemistry because I like learning new things and getting deeper  knowledge of chemistry and biology. Every time I can understand at a microscopic level a biological process, I wonder of how it perfectly works related to other processes. The idea of discovering just a little bit of how does God's complex creation works, it's exciting. Besides, I like to have the opportunity of take advantage of the knowledge that I already have or that one I will have, for society's benefit. I saw all of that in the career, so that's why I chose it. Now, How did I choose the career? That´s a little bit long story. I have already told you some details in the previous post but now I tell you more. First of all, at 9th grade I moved to a school that prepares students for getting in university. Naturally, that became my objective during whole high school. The task was choosing what career I wanted to get in. My first option was education, I ...
